CMHK proudly presents the Sound Brood: an Interdisciplinary Approach in Sound Music and Art. This curriculum guideline for high school students is the final product of a two-years project “Sound Brood Sound Art Cultivation for Youth”, which is financially supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is a handy and flexible “tool book” that teachers and event organizers in different subjects and discipline can choose the appropriate elements and modules to supplement their classes. The book aims to break the boundaries between different subjects and to train students’ multi-intelligence through activities.

About Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong
Founded in 2007, CMHK is a registered charitable institution that is devoted to the promotion and presentation of contemporary music and cross-disciplinary practices in sound. CMHK has presented multi-disciplinary and exploratory productions and draws simultaneously from diverse disciplines ranging from music, sound and theatre, to technology, circus, moving images and spatial installations.

With the support of the ADC, CMHK has maintained its focus on serving as an intermediary organization for the local sound art community. CMHK has brought together connections between Hong Kong sound artists and its project Sonic Transmission has introduced local sound artists to a wider sound-making community outside Hong Kong.

CMHK is committed to local talents, and has positioned itself as a major local platform for experimental sound. Since its inception, CMHK has commissioned and presented over 2 dozens of local sound artists, composers and art-technologists in series of public presentations. Its bi-monthly presentation Sonic Anchor has provided a ‘home base’ for the wider sound-making community formed by local artists of different art forms.

Since 2014, CMHK has launched professional development workshops, which are designed for working artists and musicians. We believe that a systematically maintained workshop and professional support for sound art practitioners will propel higher precision and more accurate handling of techniques of higher complexity.

Seeing itself rise to the role of an early-to-mid career facilitator, CMHK aspires to become: (1) a cross-disciplinary support structure for composers & sound artists in the digital age, and (2) a platform for innovative, cross-media productions by composers and sound artists.
